Dummy vai ficar para a história como um álbum magistral, estranho e enigmático – como aliás todo o universo que rodeia os Portishead, banda originária da pequena cidade costeira com o mesmo nome nos arredores de Bristol.

Considerado por muitos como o pioneiro do género Trip Hop, Dummy surgiu como uma força da natureza em toda a sua originalidade e rapidamente se tornou num ícone duma banda de culto.

Navegando em ambientes sombrios de nevoeiros hipnóticos, bem ao estilo de banda sonora de filmes de espiões, os ritmos lentos em que se destacam guitarras lânguidas entre samples sintetizados são o palco perfeito para a voz de Beth Gibbons que, apesar de ainda jovem, parecia já ser dona duma alma atormentada por séculos de padecimentos.

Dummy will go down in history as a masterful, strange and enigmatic album – like the entire universe that surrounds Portishead, a band originating from the small coastal town with the same name on the outskirts of Bristol. 

Considered by many as the pioneer of the Trip Hop genre, Dummy emerged as a force of nature in all its originality and quickly became an icon of a cult band. Navigating in dark environments of hypnotic fog, in the style of a spy film soundtrack, the slow rhythms in which languid guitars stand out among synthesized samples are the perfect stage for Beth Gibbons’ voice, which, despite still being young, seemed already being the owner of an old soul tormented by centuries of suffering.  A sublime album! But very, very sad…
